    Search Go

Cloning an existing tool is a great way to streamline content creation while ensuring consistency across your projects.

Cloning tools
-------------

1. From the **Dashboard**, navigate to the **Projects** tab and select the relevant project.
2. In the left-hand menu, under **Content** or **Participation**, select a tool type to see the list of tools created for this project.
3. From this list, select the tool you want to clone.
4. On right hand side of the listing, click on the **ellipsis** icon. Select **Clone**.
5. Create a new **Title** and change the **URL alias** if required. Select a **target destination** by choosing a project from the dropdown (*Note: You can only clone to projects you have permission to access).*
6. **Tick the box** if you also want to copy the content blocks from the current tool.
7. Click **Clone**. You will be navigated to the edit screen of the new tool in the target project, where you can customise the tool as required.

*Note: Cloning a participation tool only duplicates the latest draft of the tool, without its revision history or submissions.*

#### Cloning tip

When choosing a target destination for your cloned tool, you can also choose the **Site Content (Global)** location. This is useful for creating a base template or content that can be reused across different parts of your site.

Cloning maps
------------

When you clone a map, all its elements, including icons and layers, will be duplicated in the new map. If your map layer has markers, those markers will be cloned to the new destination with the name \[marker-name-***copy\].***

*Note: Depending on the context of the context of the new map, you may need to adjust and rename its markers, icons and layers.*
