Unpublish a participation tool
------------------------------

Note: *This process can be followed for any participation tool.*

You can unpublish individual participation tools from a project without affecting the other content. The tool will be automatically removed from anywhere it is currently displayed or linked to.

To unpublish a participation tool:

1. Navigate to an existing project.
2. In the project sub-menu, under **Participation**, click on the type of participation tool you'd like to unpublish. This will display all the participation tools of that type that already exist for this project.
3. On the tool you want to unpublish, click on the **ellipsis** at the end of the row.
4. Select **Edit.**
5. At the top right of the screen, click the chevron beside **Publish** and choose **Unpublish**.
6. Add a revision message to record why you are making the change, then click **Confirm**.

Delete a participation tool
---------------------------

Note: *This process can be followed for any participation tool.*

You can delete a participation tool from a project if it is no longer needed, or was created by mistake. This permanently removes the tool and all its content and cannot be undone. Proceed with caution!

*Note: you may not have delete permissions as part of your role. If you have any questions about your permissions, contact your Civio Engage administrator.*

To delete a participation tool:

1. Navigate to an existing project.
2. In the project sub-menu, under **Participation**, click on the type of participation tool you'd like to delete. This shows all the participation tools of that type that already exist for this project.
3. On the tool you want to delete, click on the **ellipsis** at the end of the row.
4. Select **Delete**.
5. You'll be prompted with a warning to confirm the action. Click **Yes, Delete this \[Poll\].**
6. Your participation tool is now deleted.

Close submissions for a participation tool
------------------------------------------

Note: *This process can be followed for any participation tool.*

You can close a participation tool to new submissions without affecting other content. Existing submissions stay where they are and stay accessible.

To close submissions for a participation tool:

1. Navigate to an existing project.
2. In the project sub-menu, under **Participation**, click on the type of participation tool you'd like to close submissions for. This shows all the participation tools of that type that already exist for this project.
3. On the tool you want to close submissions for, click on the **ellipsis** at the end of the row.
4. Select **Edit**.
5. In the settings panel on the right of the **Edit** tab, set the **End date** to the current date and time, or to a future date and time when you want submissions to end.
6. Save the change with the publishing buttons at the top right of the screen. On a published tool the primary button reads **Publish**. Clicking it opens a **Save content** window: add a revision message to record why you are making the change, then click **Confirm**.

The other button, **New draft**, does not unpublish the tool. It saves your change as a draft revision and leaves the published version live until you publish it.

![The settings panel on a published participation tool, running from Url alias at the top to Card call to action text at the foot, with the End date field and its help text Date submissions will close traced second from the bottom, directly under Confirmation message.](https://engage.knowledge.civ.io/storage/Th8tHKksfS44mGNIYeOz0YU9xmZDRLorM1LE1ep7.png)

After setting the end date, the participation tool will no longer accept new submissions as per the specified date and time.
